A West Coast Demerara taxi driver was carjacked at gunpoint on Tuesday night and robbed of his valuables by two unidentified men who pretended to be passengers.
The driver, 39-year-old, Bhagwandin Narine, of Anna Catherina, West Coast Demerara, who operates a white Toyota Spacio, PNN 2814, from New Road, West Coast Demerara, was sent to make a pickup opposite the West Demerara Regional Hospital where the men were waiting.
According to a police report, Narine picked up the men at about 8.30pm. Both were wearing black facemasks covering from their noses down. Prior to entering the car, one of the suspects inquired about the fare to Policeman Corner, La Parfaite Harmonie, and was told by the driver that the cost was $1,500, to which the men agreed. They both then entered the car, with one of the suspects seated in the front passenger seat and the other in the backseat behind the driver.
