Family members of Dulmattie Boodlall, the woman who was struck down at Nandy Park, on the East Bank of Demerara on Tuesday by a Guyana Police Force minibus, are calling for justice and transparency from the police.
Boodlall, 58, of Golden Grove, was on her way to work when she was fatally struck by the minibus as she attempted to cross the highway around 7.26 am on Tuesday.
Boodlall’s relatives on Friday evening hosted a candlelight vigil at the spot where she was struck as they called for justice to be served and for the individual responsible for her death to face the full force of the law.
When Stabroek News reached out to the family, Boodlall’s son, Vijay (only name given) told this newspaper that they have not received any updates from the police about the accident and the investigation.
“We went to the police and they ain’t want tell we nothing. We don’t know who do this and they not telling us,” he said.
Vijay added that all the family wants is transparency from the force.
According to the police, Boodlall was hit while attempting to cross the Nandy Park Public Road in the vicinity of Shaheed Supermarket. At that time the force noted that the East Bank three-lane was active and the bus attached to the Tactical Services Unit was proceeding north along the western side of the eastern carriageway.
Relatives had previously shared their frustration over being unable to receive information regarding the driver and the matter.
Boodlall, who would have celebrated her 59th birthday later this month, was described as a quiet individual.
Commissioner of Police (Ag), Nigel Hoppie has assured the relatives of the deceased that a thorough investigation will be conducted into the incident with no stone left unturned.
