More students, teachers and auxiliary staff have tested positive for the coronavirus upon their return to public schools around the country, the Minister of Health Dr Frank Anthony disclosed yesterday.
During the daily COVID-19 update, Anthony informed that a total of 30 students have tested positive since the reopening of schools on January 4th.
The minister on Thursday had shared that 19 students, 10 teachers and eight dorm staff, had tested positive. But in yesterday’s address, he said, “As of today we have 30 students who have tested positive, we have 11 teachers tested positive and 13 axillary staff from dormitory schools across the country.”
He said that these persons are being isolated. Testing still continues and the minister noted that they are awaiting students living far away who have to return to school. When those students arrive, the testing will be done for them as well. Additionally, the Minister said that institutional isolation facilities are being utilised to treat persons but in the case of President’s College students and teachers, they are being isolated at the MoH, Diamond, East Bank Demerara, Facility.
The testing is being carried out on Grades 10, 11, and 12, which have been authorised to return to physical classrooms.
