A Herstelling man is now dead after he rode into a minibus along the Herstelling Public Road, East Bank Demerara, on Friday afternoon.
Adiraj Persaud, 33, was riding his bicycle across the road at the time of the accident.
The Guyana Police Force, in a brief statement on the accident, noted that the minibus driven, which was by an East Ruimveldt resident, was proceeding north along the western lane on the western carriageway on the Herstelling Public Road when it collided with Persaud. It also crashed into a parked truck that was nearby.
Footage of the accident, which was seen by this newspaper, showed Persaud riding into the path of the minibus, seemingly not having seen it.
Persaud, who landed on the road, suffered a fracture of his skull and his right hand.
He was subsequently picked up in an unconscious state by public-spirited citizens and transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he died while receiving treatment.
A breathalyser test conducted on the 43-year-old minibus driver found no trace of alcohol.
