A forty-seven-year-old taxi driver died yesterday morning when he drove into a parked lorry along the Soesdyke/Linden Highway.
The deceased has been identified as Lester Williams of Hill Foot, Soesdyke/Linden Highway.
According to a police report, Williams who is the owner of HC 8750 was proceeding north along the western side of the Soesdyke Public Road, East Bank Demerara at a fast rate around 2 am when he lost control and collided with the lorry GNN 5308 which was parked on the western side of the road facing south.

Melvern Williams, a brother of the deceased who spoke with Stabroek News, said that Lester Williams had left his home to transport the tutor of his stepson home.
Melvern said the last time he saw his brother was when he visited him Saturday evening. “He told me take two Guinness before I go and I said ‘Nah’ and I take one and I left about 7.30… The tutor and him probably had some Guinness according to eyewitnesses then he left and said he’ll be right back shortly after dropping him [the tutor] off”, Melvern said.
The brother of the deceased said that they received a call informing of Lester’s demise sometime between 2 am and 3am yesterday. “… Lester was enthusiastic, Lester was always influential. He was always a person to look up to. That is the kind of person I would describe my brother as”, Melvern solemnly said of the deceased.
Lester was said to be the only breadwinner of his family.
His body is currently at Lyken’s Funeral Home awaiting an autopsy.
