Health Minister Dr. Frank Anthony yesterday encouraged persons to contact the National COVID-19 Task Force Secretariat if they are aware of businesses that are breaching the COVID-19 measures and are not being warned or sanctioned.
During the COVID-19 update yesterday, Anthony noted that the task force has written warning letters to a number of business establishments that were breaching the COVID-19 measures in an attempt to get those businesses to comply.
However, he said there are some that continue to breach those measures and a number of businesses were sanctioned as a result. Over the weekend the Task Force ordered a number of businesses that were breaching the COVID-19 guidelines to close.
Addressing concerns that only certain businesses are being sanctioned he stressed that they have written to all the businesses who they know for a fact are breaching the guidelines and encouraged persons to contact the task force secretariat if they believe that some business are getting a free pass.
“We have written to everybody and if there is any institution that people are aware of that we have given a free pass to then I’ll suggest that they contact the task force secretariat and bring that to our notice because nobody is above the law,” he said before adding that the irresponsibility of the businesses are putting people’s lives at risk.
He added that persons supporting those businesses are also to blame because they too are breaching the guidelines just by going to an establishment that is contravening those measures.
Anthony said that there are many who aren’t complying with COVID rules and this was recognized by the task force. As a result he said they will be executing stricter enforcement of the measures.
