The floodwaters in Black Bush Polder as of yesterday were continuing to recede, Deonarine Persaud, Chairman of the Black Bush Polder Water Users Association said last evening.
According to him, as of yesterday five machines remained in the area carrying out works.
He explained that three machines were working on clearing front drains, while two were working on back drains.
The machines were deployed to the area after a visit by Minister of Agriculture, Zulfikar Mustapha.
According to Persaud, a report was compiled detailing how many farmers were affected and has since been sent to the ministry.
Meanwhile, PPP/C Regional Democratic Councillor, Thakoor Persaud, also confirmed to Stabroek News, that the water is receding rapidly in the area.
Persaud, who has been an RDC Councillor for 35 years, said, “The residential area dry out and now we trying to assist the people in the back.”
He also acknowledged that the machines were a major help in ensuring that the water drained faster.
According to the men, Yakusari and Johanna were mostly affected by the floodwaters, while the other polders were partially affected.
