Minister of Health Dr Frank Anthony yesterday disclosed that Moraikobai, in Region Five, is now a COVID-19 hotspot and wants to increase testing in the area.
However, this is dependent on the “cooperation and collaboration” of the Toshao and Village Council of the only Indigenous community in Region Five.
Anthony disclosed that Region Five currently has a total of 49 active cases of which 33 are from Moraikobai.
He said a team from the Ministry visited the community last weekend and tested 71 persons from the community and 33 of those persons’ results returned positive.
As a result they are hoping to return to the community to conduct more testing but they need the full cooperation of the village council. “We are hoping that we would get more cooperation from the Village council and other members of the community because we need their cooperation and collaboration to increase testing and we will have to start working with them to put in some additional measures so we can contain the spread,” he said.
Anthony added that if the number of positive cases continues to increase a medical team will stay on site to monitor the situation.
