National cricketer, Christopher Barnwell, who represents Tarmac Cricket Club in local tapeball, slammed 36 runs off one over, which was the highlight performance in the “Pure Entertainment Stars on Show” seven-a-side tapeball tournament at D’urban Park Sunday last.
His side defeated Eccles by 33 runs. Tarmac batted first and were in a spot of bother before Barnwell, who blasted Leron Buns for six sixes off the final over, wielded his willow to end unbeaten on 60. Tarmac ended the six overs contest on 106-1 with Kenny Cox supporting Banwell’s effort with an unbeaten 22.
Eccles, in response, were limited to 73-1 with skipper, Sagar Hetharamani top scoring with 31.
Meanwhile, pre tournament favourites, Village Rams were also in the winners row, defeating Young Steppaz by 31 runs. Rams batted first and posted 94 before being dismissed. Skipper, Omesh “Rampage” Danram, recorded an even 50 to lift his side to a competitive total. Steppaz, in response, could only manage 63-4 before their overs ended as left arm-seamer, Mark Cumberbatch snatched 3-19.
V-Net Vipers also chalked up an easy win against Uprising.
Uprising took first strike and made 85-3 from their allotted six overs. Vipers, in response, hardly broke a sweat and raced to 86-1 as Kemol Savory (48) produced another master class innings. All three teams, on the back of their wins, have secured semifinals berths.
