A Bourda Market vendor was robbed by four bandits in an early morning attack yesterday.
A Guyana Police Force report said Hazrat (only name given), 45, of Ruby Backdam, East Bank Essequibo, was at his stall at Alexander and Bourda streets around 3.30 am when the robbers approached him on pedal cycles.
According to the police, one of the suspects was armed with a handgun while the other three had knives.
The report said the suspect armed with the handgun instructed the vendor to remain quiet and then dealt him two blows to the left side of his face with the gun.
He subsequently demanded money, resulting in Hazrat handing over a cell phone, valued at $30,000, and $40,000 in cash.
The suspects then escaped, riding south along Alexander Street.
The police were alerted but subsequent checks in the area did not result in them finding the suspects.
