A cook from the North West District in Region One is now dead after a tree reportedly fell on her.
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) on Friday evening stated that they were investigating the death of the cook, who was identified as 32-year-old Domelley Cyrus.
The incident occurred on Wednesday at Nasano Backdam in the North West District.
The GPF said Initial investigations revealed that the woman started as a cook with a 27-year-old miner last Saturday at his dredge. According to the miner, on the day of the incident, around 2pm, a tree fell on the mining camp, leaving the cook motionless and with injuries to the head.
The police were subsequently summoned to the scene and the woman was then escorted to the Port Kaituma District Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
A post-mortem examination is scheduled.
