Dear Editor,
I entertained a vast number of calls on Friday. The questions surrounded the PPP’s bottom house meeting at Linden on Thursday last. I didn’t have the energy to hold long conversations but made it clear that it is only an unwise person that will voice rejection of their country’s or community’s development. Governments are there to facilitate development through the use of taxpayer’s money. Citizens must not feel that it is a blessing to be given lands, jobs and economic development.
We must move away from the culture of ‘down on your knees’ gratitude when government leaders visit your communities to discuss how to build a bridge or clean two gutters. That is why they are elected and paid; their duty is to facilitate development without pomp and ceremony. When we look at the history of previous PPP governments’ treatment or mistreatment of Linden and its citizens, it is natural to show skepticism, especially when the current leaders were those same past leaders.
I am a Lindener with a voice. I ask what would you do after more than two decades of failed promises by the PPP?
Yours faithfully,
Norman K. Browne
