The body of a 49-year-old Sandhills man was retrieved from the Berbice River yesterday morning after he reportedly fell overboard following a boat mishap on Saturday.
Dead is James Bender, 49, self-employed of Sandhills Village, Upper Berbice River.
According to Rawl Walker, 44, Deputy Toshao of Kimbia Village, Upper Berbice River, it was reported to him late Saturday that Bender had fallen overboard.
He told police that Roger English, 58, self employed of Lot 2356 Onderneeming, West Demerara went to him and reported that he and Bender were traveling in a small wooden boat in the vicinity of Kimbia Village when their boat hit a post which caused Bender to fall overboard.
A search was immediately launched for Bender but his body was only discovered on Sunday evening.
His body was brought out to the New Amsterdam Stelling just after 6 am yesterday, and is currently at a funeral parlour awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Police have launched an investigation.
