The National Insurance Scheme (NIS) on Friday launched a new service using video calls for the completion of life certificates.
In a statement, the NIS said that this will be done via WhatsApp on a cell phone. The service will require pensioners providing a phone number and an email address and is available to persons living both locally and overseas.
Initially, six officers have been identified to provide the service from Monday to Thursdays between 8:00hrs to 16:30hrs and 8:00 hrs to 15:30hrs on Fridays. The following cell numbers were assigned to the service.
(i) 592-623-2801
(ii) 592-623-2802
(iii) 592-623-2803
(iv) 592-623-2804
(v) 592-623-2805
(vi) 592-623-2806
This newest service was officially launched on Friday, January 15, 2021 in the compound of the NIS at Brickdam and Winterplace, Georgetown.
For years, pensioners and their families had complained about the inconvenience of the life certificate requirement to enable the continuous receipt of benefits.
In the statement on the new service, the NIS said that “serving the growing pensions population has become a great concern to the Scheme and other stakeholders. This is especially true for our pensioners who reside overseas and sometimes are forced to pay large sums of monies to complete their life certificates”.
