The driver of the pick-up involved in the accident which claimed the life of Uriel Reynolds was on Friday released on $500,000 bail after he was charged with causing death by dangerous driving.
Wesley Rodney, 47, of Linden, made his appearance before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Providence Magistrate’s Court where the charge was read to him.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on January 12th, along the Soesdyke/Linden Highway he drove in a dangerous manner thereby causing the death of Reynolds.
He was also charged with being an unlicensed driver and with breach of Insurance.Rodney was placed on $500,000 bail and ordered to return to court on February 17th when the matter will be called again.
Reynolds, 31, of 219 Munipur Street, Prashad Nagar, Georgetown, succumbed after a collision involving a pick-up and the minibus he was in along the Soesdyke/ Linden Highway.
A Police report stated that at approximately 19:15 hours on January 12th on the Soesdyke/Linden Highway, Reynolds was driving a minibus bearing registration number PPP 3468 when a car collided with a pick-up. As a result of the collision, the driver of the pick-up lost control of his vehicle and collided with the mini bus driven by Reynolds.
Reynolds was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
A Breathalyzer test conducted on the drivers of the car and the pick-up, found no trace of alcohol.
Ariannis Reynolds, the wife of the deceased, was in the minibus when the accident occurred.
The grieving woman had told Stabroek News that they were heading back to Georgetown after visiting a friend on the Highway when the accident occurred. Ariannis suffered injuries to her right arm and lower abdomen.
