Trinidad man gunned down hours after accused of breaching protection order

(Trinidad Guardian) Relatives of 24-year-old Kristian Nanan, who was shot dead in Princes Town on Sunday night, believe someone ordered a hit on his life.

While they don’t know who ordered the murder and why Nanan’s brother Keston said he has no confidence the killers will be brought to justice.

Police said around 9.10 pm Nanan was liming with three friends at Seudath Avenue.

As he crossed the road he was approached by a man wearing a hoodie and a mask who pulled out a gun and shot him several times. The gunman escaped in a car that was parked a short distance away.

About ten minutes after the shooting, the police arrived and took Nanan to the Point Fortin Area Hospital where he died while receiving treatment.

Police said he had wounds to his head, neck, chest, and arm.

Earlier in the night, around 7.20 pm, police responded to a report of a disturbance on Seudath Avenue where Nanan’s ex-girlfriend complained that he had breached a protection order. The police took Nanan, who was liming on the street, to the woman’s home and spoke to both of them.

However, Keston described his brother as shy and quiet and said he had ended a relationship with the mother of his one-year-old son before the child was born. He admitted that on several occasions the police spoke to Nanan about reports made by his son’s mother. He said a few days before the incident Nanan was told that a protection order had been taken out against him, but he was not served.

Contacted for comment, Nanan’s ex-girlfriend said the police and her lawyers are dealing with the matter.

“At the end of the day, we lost a father to my child,” she said.

An autopsy is expected to be done at the Forensic Science Centre this week.
