Improvised weapons found in raid on Camp St prison

The contraband items that were found during today’s search.

Ranks of the Joint Services this morning carried out a search at the Camp Street prison during which a quantity of contraband items including seven improvised weapons were unearthed.

Police spokesman Assistant Commissioner Royston Andries-Junor today confirmed the raid which was conducted between 6am and 10.10am.

He said that ranks of Region 4A, Tactical Service Unit (TSU) and the Guyana Prison Service carried out the operation during which several prisoners and their cells were searched.

Among the contraband items which were recovered were ten cellular phones, seventy-six parcels containing leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis which amounted to 34 grams, sixteen pieces of paper containing a whitish substance believed to be ‘Molly’, one pair of scissors, one SIM card, two nail clippers, three cell phone batteries, three USB cables, five razor blades, one bottle of homemade wine, one earpiece, one metal grater and five razor blades.

The items were seized and an investigation has since been launched.
