Europe’s relationship with Guyana continues to evolve

Dear Editor,

I recently reflected on the influence of the French on our history. After all they did give us La Bonne Intention, historically one of the best Sugar Estates in the country. Thanks to the French, who have also been a part of our colonial heritage, our Society does still appreciate the finer things in life, excellent service and exemplary manners. Some may argue that the British have had a similar impact, but who am I to argue about the rivalry between neighbours. We do appreciate all of Europe in Guyana and thank our European friends for their historical gifts that they keep giving. This has allowed for a very fruitful and mutually beneficial relationship to flourish over the years; they have stood by us throughout our history. Europe continues to lead in sensitizing the world on climate change and has fostered its development in environmental consciousness.

We look forward to sharing with them the rediscovery of Our Beautiful Land via the Ecotourism Industry.

Thank you for the Paris Agreement on Climate Change!

Best regards,

Jamil Changlee
