A man charged with robbing a GDF lieutenant of jewellery and electronic gadgets has been remanded to prison after denying the charge.
Malvin Jeune, 33, of East Ruimveldt, Georgetown, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court when the armed robbery charge was read to him by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
The charge against him states that on January 21, at Market St, East Ruimveldt, while being armed with a gun, he robbed Kaya Dover, a lieutenant in the Guyana Defence Force, of items, including jewellery and gadgets amounting to $430,000.
He pleaded not guilty and was remanded until February 5.
According to the police, Dover was robbed at gunpoint on the date mentioned at 04:45 hrs. He was approached by a man who asked for a drink of water who then pointed a handgun at Dover’s chest and proceeded to relieve him of his belongings which included jewellery and gadgets.
