Minister of Housing and Water, Collin Croal has announced that $100 million has been allocated for remedial road works in several areas along the East Bank of Demerara.

According to the Department of Public Information (DPI), Croal announced this week that the project will come under the Ministry’s Community Road Repair and Enhancement programme in the 2021 Budget.

He noted that some of the roads to be looked at include those from Herstelling through to Mocha, as well as the Providence main road area. Covent Garden and Farm will also be improved immediately.

At an outreach held at the Little Diamond/Herstelling Neighbour-hood Democratic Council (NDC) office, several residents took the opportunity to discuss their concerns about the roads, water and street lights in the communities.

Croal along with CEO of Central Hosing and Planning Authority (CH&PA), Sherwyn Greaves and other technical officers were present at the community outreach.

He highlighted some of the projects that are expected to be executed in new and existing communities along the East Bank, under the Ministry’s 2021 work programme.

Stabroek News had this week highlighted the deplorable condition of the roads in the Herstelling New Scheme community, also known as ‘fourth bridge’.
