NCN technician robbed after shots fired at him

A 46-year-old technician attached to the National Communications Network (NCN) was on Sunday attacked and robbed of more than $1M worth of gold jewellery and cash outside his mother’s ‘B’ Field, Sophia home.

Dexter Beckles explained to Stabroek News that he visited his mother’s place where they had a discussion after which he left.

“I sit down about five minutes by her and then I told her that I going over by me to get something to eat,” Beckles said.

The incident occurred around 3pm. Beckles also resides in Sophia.

He said as he was locking the gate to his mother’s premises, an XR motorcycle with two men pulled up and the pillion rider got off.

 “…..The pillion rider point a gun in my direction. So I decide to run and he fire a shot at me and it miss. He fire another shot at me and I end up falling down,” Beckles explained.

After he fell to the ground, Beckles said he was relieved of a gold chain worth $300,000, a gold band valued $500,000 and a haversack containing an undisclosed amount of cash and important documents.

The bandits made good their escape.

The matter was reported to the police and an investigation was launched.
