The Massy Group of Companies of Trinidad and Tobago has announced that it is making available more than US$1 million to develop and deliver programmes to entrepreneurs across the Caribbean.
Massy will reportedly be working with other institutions in the region to provide collective support to emerging regional micro and small businesses. The company says it believes that the recovery of the regional economies in which it operates will need significant entrepreneurial activity and energy, going forward.
Massy Group President and Chief Executive Officer, Gervase Warner, has indicated that the company’s Board of Directors has approved an initial expenditure to develop and deliver programmes to entrepreneurs across the region, including pop-up points-of-sale in its own stores. The company will also be identifying what it considers to be worthwhile investments in other stores.
The so-called NUDGE initiative will be launched in Barbados and St. Lucia this year.
The company says it also aims to respond to instances in which regional entrepreneurs have been displaced owing to various developments including circumstances arising out of the current COVID-19 pandemic. Its initiative embodies three tiers of activities, those being training and development for budding entrepreneurs exploring ideas for their own business, support for artisans and micro-entrepreneurs with products seeking exposure to markets; and support for entrepreneurs through Massy’s governance, networks, training, and in some instances funding.
The NUDGE initiative is also inviting the participation of other institutions and businesses in the initiative.
