The Guyana Police Force is expected to receive advice shortly from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in relation to an accident that claimed the life of Randy Samuels, who was hit down by a Puran Brothers garbage truck in November of last year.
Liz Rahaman, the Public Relations Officer for the DPP’s Chambers when contacted by Stabroek News on Wednesday, said the file is presently being looked at.
Rahaman who disclosed that the file was sent to the DPP’s Chambers on January 22nd, 2021, noted that it will be returned to the police in a matter of days.
Samuels, 42, of Lot 2606 Phase Two, Recht-door-Zee, La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara, was struck down on November 15 in the vicinity of Stewartville, West Coast Demerara.
The man who worked as a pastry maker was on an errand to get supplies when he was hit down at approximately 8:25 am on the above mentioned date.
Police had said that Samuels ran out from under a bus shed and into the path of the vehicle.
The initial investigation by the police revealed that the driver immediately applied brakes and pulled to the southern side of the road in a bid to avoid the collision. However, his effort was futile as the vehicle struck the pedestrian. Samuels was picked up and rushed to Leonora Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
An autopsy has confirmed the cause of his death as due to multiple injuries.
The 30-year-old driver of the garbage truck was released on $50,000 station bail.
