Written for his wife, Steven Ramphal’s latest single, a Bollywood Refix love song “Never Leave You” was released last week Thursday and has already become a hit in Trinidad and Tobago with fans there specially requesting it. The new release led to international promoters Envy Sounds contacting Steven to work with them, to which he has agreed.
“We’ve been together for the past six years and married life has some ups, it has some downs, but she has always been there encouraging me, so I wrote this song in dedication to her,” the singer/songwriter said.
Steven’s wife, Lana Ramphal, is also the female lead character in the song video while he played the male lead. Lana is bashful, Steven said, and it took numerous pleadings from him before she finally agreed to act in the song video.
The song was written just three weeks ago, and everything was produced locally. The mix and mastering were done by Avinash Roopchand at Shakti Strings Studio and the video directed and produced by Keon Hector.
“It has been amazing. I didn’t expect the song to escalate so fast. I’m being contacted by DJs in and out of Guyana. Earlier this week, I got on board with one of the biggest promoters in the Caribbean, Envy Sounds, so I’ll be working along with them. This is a really big step for me in the Chutney industry,” said an elated Steven.
Since the singer’s win at the Chutney Monarch 2019 Competition and second place the same year at the Soca Monarch Competition, he started a brand called ‘Team Unity’ that promotes love and unity. His last release was a song done under the brand which he collaborated on with local songstress, Josephine Mitchell early last year.
At present the singer is working on two other songs slated to come by mid-February.
“Never Leave You” was released on 39 different online platforms including YouTube, Amazon Music, Apple Music, Geezer, Spotify, TikTok, Facebook, and Eusi Music. The song has seen airplay every day so far on all the local radio stations.
