The case file on the death of Dulmattie Boodlall, a woman who was fatally struck by a Guyana Police Force minibus has been sent to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.
Police Commander of Region 4 (b) Senior Superintendent Linden Isles, when contacted, stated that they are presently awaiting further instructions from the DPP on the way forward.
Stabroek News had reported that Boodlall, 58, of Golden Grove, was on her way to work when she was struck down at Nandy Park, East Bank Demerara, as she attempted to cross the highway.
A police report had stated that at the time of the incident, the East Bank three-lane was active and the bus which is attached to the Tactical Services Unit was heading north along the western side of the eastern carriageway. It was being driven by a constable stationed at the unit and attached to former President David Granger.
According to the driver, at about 7:26 am on January 5, he was approaching the pedestrian crossing when he suddenly saw Boodlall crossing from west to east on the pedestrian crossing. He swerved east to avoid a collision but because of the short distance the minibus collided with the pedestrian.
The report further stated that the woman was picked up by the driver in an unconscious condition and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
The woman was said to have suffered head injuries, a broken arm, and other injuries about her body. It was reported that she died at the scene of the accident.
She was described as a quiet individual who was extremely nice to all.
A post-mortem examination conducted on the body of the deceased had established her cause of death as multiple injuries.
