A boat captain is missing after his craft collided with the Bartica Public Hospital marine ambulance on Saturday night.
The missing man has been identified as fifty-five-year-old Claude Pollard of Bartica.
According to a police report, around 7.15pm, the boat ambulance was on its way to Bartica from Parika while the boat Pollard was captain of was en route to Parika from Bartica when they collided within the vicinity of Stampa Point. Following the impact, Pollard fell overboard and has not been seen since. At the time of the incident, Pollard was said to be one of seven persons on his boat while the boat ambulance was captained by fifty-nine-year-old Bernard Singh. There was also a passenger onboard the water ambulance.
When this newspaper reached out to police commander of Region Seven, Senior Superintendent, Dion Moore yesterday, he said that Pollard had not been found. As a result of the collision four persons were said to have suffered injuries. They were all treated at the Bartica Public Hospital and sent away.
Bartica’s Mayor, Gifford Marshall in a Facebook post wished the family of the missing man well as they remained hopeful he would be found alive. Marshall disclosed that among the passengers on Pollard’s boat were his son and daughter.
Police investigations are in progress.
