A woman who was allegedly caught attempting to smuggle cannabis into Camp Street Prison was on Monday charged and released on bail.
Parivina Kissoon of Lot 62 Herstelling Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, appeared in the courtroom of Principal Magistrate Sherdel Marcus-Isaacs at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Courts where she was charged with trying to smuggle cannabis into the Camp Street Prison.
The charge states that on January 26, 2021, at Camp Street, Georgetown, she tried to introduce 12 grams of cannabis into the prison. Kissoon pleaded not guilty. She was released on $20,000 bail and directed to return to court on March 1, 2021.
According to information provided to the court by the police prosecutor, on the day in question, Kissoon visited the prison. While she was being checked by security, a parcel containing the suspected illicit drug was found.
