A taxi driver was shot in the head on Tuesday night while attending a party in North East La Penitence.
A police report stated that Osafo Pollard, 29, of Lot 44 James Street, West La Penitence, was killed at about 10.30 pm.
Police enquiries revealed that a loud explosion similar to that of a gunshot was heard followed by persons screaming and running and Pollard was seen lying on the ground with a wound to his head.
He was picked up and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) where he succumbed to his injuries at about 12.20 am yesterday while undergoing treatment.
The body is presently at the GPH mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
According to acting Commander of Region 4A, Senior Superintendent Khali Pareshram, the person in charge of the house where the party was hosted in breach of the COVID-19 guidelines, is presently in police custody assisting with the investigation.
A video seen by this newspaper showed Pollard lying on the ground gasping, as persons stood in proximity awaiting the arrival of an ambulance.
