Firefighters managed to contain a fire at the Celina’s Resort at the Kitty Seawall on Friday evening.
The fire only caused damage to one section of the facility, according to acting Chief Fire Officer Kalamadeen Edoo.
At the scene, Edoo stated that the Guyana Fire Service received a call around 8.28 pm and subsequently dispatched fire tenders from the Central Fire Station as well as the Alberttown and the Campbellville fire stations.
He stated that upon arrival at the scene, firefighters observed that a section of the facility was engulfed in flames. “Immediately we went into action and were able to bring the fire under control and contain it to one apartment of the building,” Edoo reported.
Based on the initial investigations, officers were able to note that the individual who occupied the building was possibly lighting fires, which came into contact with combustible materials and spread.
However, firefighters found no one in the vicinity of the buildings, Edoo informed.
