Three brothers are presently in custody over the fatal stabbing of a 20-year-old man outside his Belle West, West Bank Demerara (WBD) home on Friday night.
The dead man has been identified as Emanuel Solomon, of Lot 317 Belle West. One of the accused in the fatal attack on him is a juvenile, while the other two are ages 23 and 26.
Solomon was stabbed multiple times about his body, including to his heart.
Police spokesman Assistant Commissioner Royston Andries-Junor confirmed the murder, which took place around 6.30 pm.
The police said enquiries revealed that Solomon and the suspects had a misunderstanding over a football game about eight months ago.
On Friday night, the police added, Solomon was sitting in front of his gap when his mother related that he was approached by the suspects, who rushed to him and launched the attack, stabbing him about his body.
This newspaper has learned that Solomon tried to run into a neighbour’s house but the men ran behind him. He reportedly jumped through a window to escape the men, who followed behind him. However, Solomon eventually got stuck and his assailants held him and stabbed him. One of the brothers reportedly held him, while one inflict the stab wounds and the other hit him with a piece of wood. A woman was said to have been with the brothers, goading them on.
Solomon eventually managed to get away from the men and ran to his own yard with his attackers behind him. He eventually collapsed once inside his home.
He was subsequently rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
According to the police, ranks, acting on information received, went to the suspects’ home, where one of the brothers was apprehended. He was cautioned about the crime and reportedly told investigators that Solomon hit him with a piece of wood, causing him to sustain injuries to his face and one of his hands, and as a result he went home and complained to his brothers, who returned to the scene with him and assaulted Solomon.
The injured suspect was taken to the West Demerara Hospital, where he was treated before being taken into police custody.
The two other suspects were handed over to the police by their mother.
