As Cricket GUY Inc. reintroduces its cricket academy, four prospective players for the West Indies Under-19 World Cup squad have been included.

This is according to a release from the body yesterday which stated, “The talented youth players of Mavendra Dindyal, Matthew Nandu, Isai Throne and Rampertab Ramnauth all of whom are currently under the watchful eyes and nurturing system of CWI [Cricket West Indies], as specific player development initiatives take root with the upcoming ICC U19 World Cup which is planned to be held in the West Indies in 2022,” have secured ‘C’ contracts. The other players included are former West Indies under-19 batsman, Kevlon Anderson and pacer, Qumar Torrington. The Academy system has been implemented for a number of years and served as a nursery for the Guyana Jaguars Franchise but due to the effects of the Novel Coronavirus pandemic, the structure was put on hold.

Nevertheless, with its reintroduction, the three-tier system remains and will see 14 players contracted.

In the ‘B’ Contract tier, former West Indies Under-19 duo, who have already made their senior debuts, Bhaskar Yadram and Ronaldo Ali-Mohamed head the list as well as promising off-spinner, Richie Looknauth and explosive all-rounder, Quintyn Sampson.

Headlining the ‘A’ Contract category is out-of-favour West Indies Test batsman, Assad Fudadin who has made his return to the Guyana set up after spending a few years with Jamaica Scorpions. He is currently with the Guyana Jaguars squad in Antigua for the Regional Super50.

Also joining him in Antigua as well as in the ‘A’ grade is wicketkeeper/batsman, Kemol Savory while left-arm spinner, Antony Adams and leg break bowler, Steven Sankar, have been awarded ‘A’ contracts.

The release indicated that the contracted players as well as the available CWI/CGI contracted players are required to report to academy coach, Julian Moore at the La Bonne Intention Ground for 09.00 hours tomorrow.
