Dutch player Jorden van Foreest won the prestigious 2021 Tata Steel Masters Tournament last Saturday, at Wijk aan Zee in the Netherlands. His countryman, Anish Giri came in second, while Russia’s Andrey Esipenko took the third spot.
With America’s Fabiano Caruana coming in fourth and Iran’s Alireza Firouzja, fifth, World Champion Magnus Carlsen was relegated to sixth place. Nevertheless, Carlsen still holds the record of seven wins at Wijk aan Zee.
The 21-year-old Van Foreest, whose FIDE rating is 2671, was an unlikely winner. In today’s feature game, van Foreest beats David Anton Guijarro.
