Balgobin’s XI secured a 61-run win over Mathura’s XI as Ushardeva Balgobin and Vishal Persaud made the most of a practice game organized and played in Canal #2 Saturday.
The match is in preparation for the upcoming Guyana Cricket Board under-19 Inter-County tournament.
Reduced to a 30-over affair, Mathura’s XI won the toss and inserted Balgobin’s XI to take first strike. Balgobin’s XI were bowled out for 201 in 29.3 overs while Mathura’s XI were rolled over for 140 in 27 overs.
Balgobin led from the front with an explosive 71 from 42 balls, laced with four sixes and seven fours. The left-hander added 61 for the second wicket with Persaud who made 13.
When Balgobin was caught at long off, Andy Khan came in and smashed five sixes along with one four on his way to 52 not out off of 35 balls. Nicholas Rajpat also chipped in with 12. Ravin Paramdeo was the pick of the bowlers with three for 29 while Sachin Balgobin, Nityanand Mathura and Jeffery Blair bagged two wickets each.
In the chase, Persaud returned to trouble the batsmen and in the end returned three for 24 and was supported by Justin Mathura and Urshadeva Balgobin who took two wickets each for 12 and 26 runs respectively.
Sachin Balgobin top scored with 31 off of 80 balls and coasted six boundaries. Rashidi Benjamin and Aburdar Bacchus had cameos of 29 and 17 respectively.
