An Upper Corentyne taxi driver was on Friday busted with a quantity of smuggled fish and shrimp at Number 77 Village, Corentyne.
According to information gathered, two ranks were patrolling in the Number 77 Village, Corentyne area around 5.30 pm, when they observed a mini bus, PFF 7221.
The bus was intercepted and a search uncovered the discovery of several salt bags packed with fish and basins of shrimp.
The police yesterday said that the items are suspected to have been smuggled from neighbouring Suriname.
Tuneshwar Naryan, 34, a taxi driver of Lot 162 Number 72 Village, Corentyne, was subsequently taken into custody.
An investigation has since been launched while the seafood was lodged at the customs cold storage unit.
