Two persons died today after the car they were in smashed into a utility pole on Homestretch Avenue just after midnight.
The deceased are Dakera Gritton of Festival City, North Ruimveldt and Tonika Halley of East La Penitence.
The police in a statement said that PVV 1289 driven by a 19-year-old was going at a fast rate when it hit a utility pole around 12.30 am. The car toppled several times and ended up in a trench
Gritton was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Hospital while Halley succumbed while receiving treatment.
Three others were injured and admitted at the hospital. They are Delvern Luthers of Wortmanville, Joel Rose of D’Urban Street and Troy Glen of Laing Avenue.
The driver is in custody assisting with investigations. A breathalyzer test was done on the driver and no trace of alcohol was found in his system, police said.
