Guyana yesterday recorded its 187th fatality as a result of the novel coronavirus while only one new case was reported.
The Ministry of Health in a press release stated that as of Sunday another person who had tested positive for the virus died, bringing Guyana’s total COVID-19 fatalities to 187. This person was identified as a 71-year-old man from Region Four who died while receiving care at a medical facility.
Meanwhile, the Ministry’s COVID-19 Dashboard showed that only one new case of the virus was recorded which increased the country’s total number of confirmed positive cases to 8,232. The one case was recorded after some 112 more persons were tested for the virus thus increasing the total number of persons tested to date to 55,190.
According to the regional distribution of the cases, the one new case was recorded in Region Four and as a result the total number of cases recorded in the region to date stands at 3,667. There are now 640 active cases, 45 of whom are in institutional isolation while another 595 are in home isolation. Some seven persons are in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit.
Twenty-six persons are in institutional quarantine even as some 16 more persons have recovered from the virus which increased the total number of recovered cases to 7,399.
