Dear Editor,
I am confused of OX2.
I have a Bsc (Econ) from the London School of Economics but have always failed to understand the budget of Guyana. The minister of finance (or SM in OP to give him his proper moniker) spoke for five hours last Friday. Like a late Father Christmas, he gave away billions out of his sack of goodies. But, where does the money come from? Guybudgets are always light on sources of finance-taxation (direct and indirect), duties etc., Is this deliberate?
Do people pay taxes in Guyana? How much? Should we be told?
Meanwhile, here in the UK we await our own pint-sized Chancellor Rishi Sunak delivering his budget on March 3rd. A £280billion hole (Yes… £50,000 for every man woman and child in the country…) in the public finances through Covid support will be very hard to fill.
Yours in some confusion,
John ‘Bill Cotton/Reform’ Mair
