Trinidad begins COVID vaccinations

(Trinidad Guardian) In a landmark move in the country’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, 100 frontline healthcare workers were the first to be inoculated as the Ministry of Health began its first phase of vaccinations at the Couva Multi-Training Facility yesterday.

Gov’t reduces excise tax on fuel

Senior Minister in the Office of the President with responsibility for finance, Dr Ashni Singh, last night announced a reduction in the excise tax on gasoline and diesel to relieve the impact of the recent sharp increase in the world market price for fuel.

Review 2020

Economic Performance The Minister reported that Global output in 2020 is estimated to have contracted by 3.5 percent and in the Latin America and the Caribbean region, economic output is estimated to have contracted by 7.4 percent in 2020.

Albion Estate to start harvesting operations

The Albion sugar estate is expected to start harvesting today and grinding operations are expected to commence in a few days, following the  burning of the first beds of canes yesterday, with Estate Manager, Threbhowan Shiwprasad saying that he is  optimistic about the future of the estate and GuySuCo in general.

Analysis of expenditure Introduction Based on the priorities of the Government as set out in its Policies and Targets, the Cabinet, which recommends the Estimates, seeks the approval of the National Assembly for the allocation of the funds.

Law Reform

One day before Budget 2021 was presented, the National Assembly passed legislation to amend the Law Reform Commission Act, the principal purpose of which is to keep under review the laws of Guyana for the purpose of their simplification, modernisation, systematic development and reform.

It has been accepted, at least by right-thinking people, that a high level of vaccine-induced immunity is what will steer the world away from the current COVID-19 catastrophe that has changed life as we used to know it.
