A 32-year-old pork knocker was yesterday remanded to prison after he was charged with the murder of Jonah Williams, a Bara-mita farmer who was chopped to death in November last year.
Ruben Calvis, a resident of Arakaka, Baramita, North West District (NWD) appeared before Magistrate Dylon Bess at the Matthews Ridge Magistrate’s Court.
The charge was read to him via Zoom.
Calvis is accused of murdering Williams on November 6th, 2020 at Cassie Creek, Baramita, NWD.
He was not required to plead to the indictable charge. The matter was adjourned until March 2nd.
The police had said investigations revealed that the lifeless body of Williams, called ‘Wam-mick’, who was a resident of Cassie Creek was discovered lying on a trail around 3 pm.
Williams’ body bore chop wounds to his abdomen and left arm.
Calvis fled the scene and was subsequently arrested by the police.
