An inquest has been recommended in the death of Mon Repos resident Bridget Rodrigues.
She died after she and a police officer collided in the vicinity of the University of Guyana (UG) Access Road on Thursday last. Acting Commander of Region 4A, Senior Superintendent Khali Pareshram, when contacted stated that a file was sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) seeking legal advice. The file was returned with the recommendation that an inquest be done.
The accident occurred around 10.30 pm as Rodrigues, 63, of School Street, Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara, was riding her motorcycle. The Guyana Police Force (GPF), in a statement, had said that Rodrigues collided with a car driven by a 20 year-old police constable attached to the Brickdam Police Station’s Traffic Department. Police enquiries had revealed that the police constable was proceeding east along the southern lane of the highway, while Rodrigues was riding in the same direction.
The report explained that while the rank was approaching the intersection at UG Access Road, he collided with Rodrigues as she attempted to turn into the southern lane. As a result of the collision, she fell and suffered injuries. Emergency Medical Technicians were called and pronounced Rodrigues dead at the scene. The vehicles were lodged to be examined by the licensing and certifying officer. A breathalyser test, conducted on the driver, had found no trace of alcohol in his breath.
