Siparuta infant tested for COVID-19 after dying suddenly

The 4-month-old infant who died suddenly on Wednesday in Siparuta, Region Six, after experiencing breathing difficulties, has been tested for COVID-19.

Authorities are now awaiting the result of the COVID-19 PCR test, which was done a few hours after the baby’s death

According to a Guyana Police Force report, the infant died around 11.15 am on Wednesday. It was stated that the baby’s father, Andrew Joseph, 30, said that child was put to sleep on a bed at their home in Siparuta about 11 am.

However, Joseph said that shortly before the child was put to bed, she seemed to have difficulty breathing and when he decided to check on her around 11.15 am, he found that she was no longer breathing.

The statement added that a police rank visited Joseph’s home around 1 pm that afternoon. The baby’s body was examined for marks of violence but none were seen. The body was subsequently taken to the Skeldon Hospital and was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor.

Toshao Carl Peneaux said a post-mortem was not conducted due to the age of the child. He added that the child’s body has been returned to its parents. He confirmed that the child was tested for COVID-19.

The Toshao noted that the community currently has no active COVID-19 cases.
