A health official yesterday confirmed that the 4-month-old baby from Siparuta, Region Six, who died after experiencing breathing difficulties tested negative for COVID-19.
According to a Guyana Police Force report, the infant died around 11.15 am last Wednesday. It was stated that the baby’s father, Andrew Joseph, 30, said that child was put to sleep on a bed at their home in Siparuta about 11 am. However, Joseph said that shortly before the child was put to bed, she seemed to have difficulty breathing and when he decided to check on her around 11.15 am, he found that she was no longer breathing.
The statement added that a police rank visited Joseph’s home around 1 that afternoon. The baby’s body was examined for marks of violence but none was seen. The body was subsequently taken to the Skeldon Hospital and was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor.
Shortly after arriving at the hospital, the infant was tested for the virus but a health official from the Region yesterday confirmed that the child tested negative for COVID-19.
He said that the test result returned on Friday but a cause of death is yet to be determined as no post- mortem has been done. The child’s body is still at the hospital.
