Suspect in Belle West latrine murder held

The police yesterday captured the suspect in the murder of Colin Anthony King whose body was found on Saturday in a latrine at Belle West, West Bank Demerara.

Fazal Mohamed Ibrahim, 27, was captured at Grove, East Bank Demerara hours after the police had issued a wanted bulletin for him. He was a passenger in a minibus at the time.

King, who had not been seen since his birthday celebration on Tuesday was discovered in the septic tank by a friend who had been searching for him.

Investigators believe that King was murdered and dumped in the septic tank sometime between 9.30pm Tuesday and 7.30am on Saturday. Ibrahim, who King shared his home with could not be found by the police resulting in yesterday’s bulletin. A motorcycle, which King recently purchased was also missing.

Shahid Khan, one of King’s friends related to the police on Saturday that he went to King’s house on Friday morning to check on him. However, he said when he arrived there he only saw the suspect who was sitting under the house.

Khan reportedly asked the suspect for King and he said that he did not know where he was.

Khan subsequently left and returned to the house on Saturday morning when he smelt a “rotten” stench coming from the septic tank area. Upon checking, he saw King’s lifeless body floating in the septic tank. An alarm was immediately raised and the police were summoned.

A member of the public had also related spotting the suspect riding a motorcycle in Grove.
