A child died in the wee hours of yesterday morning.
According to a police report, the Essequibo coast child was discovered to be dead at about midnight by her sister who went to check on her. The child was playing cricket with her family on Wednesday at about 4pm. It was reported that the child was hit in her abdomen by the ball but she continued playing the game.
Some 15 minutes after, the child went inside the house and eventually went to sleep. She was checked on by her mother at about 7pm and according to her mother’s report, she was sleeping and everything seemed to be normal. However, when her sister entered the bed she was sleeping on, she felt that the deceased was cold and raised an alarm. Her mother then went to inspect her and observed that a white substance was coming out of her nose.
The child was rushed to the Charity Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
A post mortem is expected to be conducted to determine the child’s cause of death.
Police investigations are ongoing.
