Following the reported rape of a 10-year-old North West District girl, a member of her family has been taken into custody by police.
The Guyana Police Force (GPF), in a statement, said that a swift response by ranks in the North West District contributed to the arrest of the suspect, who allegedly threatened to kill the girl if she ever spoke of what he did to her.
According to the police, the attack was carried out at about 10.30 am on Wednesday. The child was left unconscious as a result. The police added that the suspect subsequently made threats to kill the child if she ever told anyone of his actions.
However, the child nonetheless confided in her grandmother, who immediately alerted the necessary authorities.
The victim was then escorted to the hospital, where she was examined. The police said statements are to be taken as the investigation continues.
