Twenty-seven companies bid for Eccles to Mandela Avenue highway project

Bids from 27 companies were yesterday opened at the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB) for the construction of the Four Lane Highway from Eccles on the East Bank Demerara to Mandela Avenue.

The project which was separated into six lots is collectively projected to cost over $2.3 billion. The six lots will be executed simultaneously. In a post on social media earlier yesterday, the Central Housing & Planning Authority (CH&PA) said that it is closer to executing the modern four-lane Eccles to Mandela  Avenue project.

According to the post, CH&PA’s Chief Executive Officer, Sherwyn Greaves was present during the tender opening and stated that the opening was a “momentous one”. The estimated completion deadline is November 2021. The CEO noted that the new highway will open lands for commercial and residential purposes.
