Thirteen (13) members of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) were accused of committing criminal offences during the last quarter of last year.
An additional twenty-two (22) ranks were accused of breaching disciplinary guidelines under various codes of conduct that guide the police in their conduct and performance during the same period.
These disclosures were made by Minister of Home Affairs Robeson Benn in written responses to questions asked by APNU+AFC Member of Parliament Geeta Chandan-Edmond surrounding misconduct or breaches by police.
Written answers to the questions were circulated during Thursday’s sitting of the National Assembly.
Asked about what actions have been taken to deal with cases of “proven” misconduct or breaches of the various codes of conduct, Benn noted that the case files were sent for criminal proceedings to be undertaken.
He added that administrative action files were also sent to Commanders and Heads of Departments for defaulters to be sanctioned.
