A former Region Six Sports Officer was yesterday jailed for three months after he admitted to threatening his wife while armed with knives last December.
Godwyn Allicock, 42, of Rose Hall Town, Corentyne, who was released from his position within the region after two charges – threatening behaviour and possession of offensive weapons – were filed against him last year.
However, he changed his plea yesterday when he appeared before Magistrate Renita Singh at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court.
Magistrate Singh sentenced him to three months on each charge, and his sentence will run concurrently.
Last year Allicock was arrested in New Amsterdam after he allegedly threatened his ex-wife at the New Amsterdam Police Station while allegedly armed with two knives.
Before being arrested the man had allegedly broken into the woman’s house and had fallen asleep, which led her to go to the New Amsterdam Police Station, where she filed a report against him. The woman then proceeded to work, where she noticed the man, who also worked nearby, entering the compound.
She then hurriedly left work and boarded a car with the intention of returning to the station but the man armed with the two knives then entered the same car.
A source had told Stabroek News that another taxi driver then arrived and whipped out a cutlass and assisted the woman by transporting her to the station.
However, while there, it is alleged that the man rushed into the station where he began threatening the woman. The source added that officers attempted to apprehend the man but he escaped into the town.
He was later arrested several streets away from the New Amsterdam Police Station.
