The Region Nine policing division is now under new command following the replacement of Police Commander Superintendent Keithon King.
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) on Sunday announced that King will be replaced by Superintendent Karl Wilson.
In a brief statement, the police said that the force continues to restructure in order to effectively carry out its mandate of service and protection to the citizens of the country.
For this to happen, relocation of key personnel is a “necessary” requirement, the police added.
“Superintendent Keithon King is currently ensuring a smooth hand over of duties to the incoming Commander (Wilson), which will aid in his success in his new command post,” the statement noted.
In December last year, King was accused of smuggling a quantity of uncustomed alcohol from Lethem to Georgetown.
The police had said that on Tuesday December 15, 2020, officials of Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) intercepted motor vehicle PYY 2671 which belongs to the force and found a quantity of suspected uncustomed alcohol.
At the time of the interception, King and two other ranks were in the vehicle.
King had maintained that there was no effort to smuggle alcohol from Lethem and noted that it was purchased there.
As such, had said that he indicated to GRA that he would be paying the required tax for the alcohol under his name. It remains unclear if GRA had accepted the offer made by King.
