A blistering century from Abdool Subhan ensured Cotton Tree Die Hard a 76-run win over Bath Sports Club and a spot in the semi-finals of the Berbice Cricket Board/ West Berbice Jaffarally T20 tournament.
Playing at home in the backlands of Cotton Tree, the hosts won the toss and batted, posting 216 for nine from their allotted overs before rolling over Bath SC for 140 in 13.5 overs.
Cotton Tree lost Fawaz Gaffoor cheaply but Narshad Gaffoor (31) and Nick Ramsaroop (11) added 39 for the second wicket which laid the foundation for Subhan to explode.
The right-handed, middle-order batsman, pummeled nine sixes and four fours on his way to an unbeaten 104.
He added 88 for the fourth wicket with Pooran Persaud who made 21 and also shared in a 47-run sixth-wicket partnership with Roshan Gaffoor who smashed three sixes in his 22-run cameo.
Fast bowlers, Kapized Armogon and Vishal Bejai were the principal wicket-takers for Bath SC, taking two wickets for 22 and 46 runs respectively.
In reply, Nashad Gaffoor returned to bag 5-41 to lead the destruction of Bath SC. Chatram Anandram, batting at number seven, resisted with a composed 42, highlighted by five fours and three sixes while opener, Haaskumar Singh chipped in with 23.
Over at Paradise Ground, Blairmont Blazers secured a comfortable six-wicket win over Bush Lot in a low-scoring affair.
Reduced to 15 overs-a-side due to moisture on the wicket, Paradise were asked to bat first and were restricted to 83 all out in 14.3 overs.
Blazers, in reply, romped to 85 for four winning with an over to spare.
Former national youth left-arm spinner, Nigel Deodat picked up 4-14 and former national under-19 all-rounder, Javed Karim bagged 3-13.
James Fraser was the only batsman to reach double figures, hitting one six and one four on his way to 23 before holing out to long on. Extras accounted for 24.
In the chase, Deodat returned to stroke five fours and one six on his way to 39 while Satya France (12 not out) and Marvan Prashad (10) supported.
Blazers was locked in a tight tussle against Paradise but that match was abandoned after a disgruntled member of the home side ran out and swung a bat towards the square leg umpire over a run out decision. At that point the one ruling umpire told both teams the match was off and Blazers exited the venue as quickly as possible.
According to a member of the Blazers side, the matter was reported to the West Berbice Cricket Association.
Meanwhile in the other scheduled match, D’Edward secured a walkover over Rainbow.
